Sharing a post I came across with tips to protect your phone from viruses.

During my daily web browsing, I came across this post about tips on how to keep cell phones free from viruses. It had never occurred to me that a cell phone could get viruses. But now that I make sense of it, any device with downloading and connectivity is susceptible to viruses. I simply copied and pasted the content. Got the track back if you need it. Some of these are common sense but its good to know and share. Enjoy and be careful.

Bluetooth
If the cellular phone equipped with Bluetooth, be sure you have the Bluetooth feature switched off when you’re not utilizing a cellular phone, or you set up your Bluetooth to set the state of hidden or invisible mode so that other Bluetooth cellular phone can’t recognise the existence of your cellular phone , this is the way to prevent the spread of the virus to your cell phone via Bluetooth

Download
If you want to download anything to your cell phone, then you must make sure that the files you downloaded it from reliable sources and official, and the better your desire to cancel the download if you have anything suspicious on the content to be downloaded

Foreign Shipments
You have to be careful if you would like to open the application program delivery via Bluetooth or attachment that is sent to your cellular telephone, be sure that applications and attachments from believed sources, if there was something untrusting, or you’re uncertain of delivery, it’s better if you don’t open it and erase it from your cellular phone.

Anti cell phone virus
To protect your cell phone from virus, you can install anti-virus software for cell phones that sell in the market at the moment, you can choose the best anti-virus and suit your needs

Manufacturer Cell phone
If the cellular phone has a virus, and you could not take out it, it’s better if you contact the manufacturer of your cellular telephone to demand help for your phone, so that cellular phone isn’t damaged and the virus could be eliminated from your cellular phone

Mash up from various sources on Google rumors of data only VoIP driven device to be released in early 2010

Rumors are all over the place but Tech Crunch has absolutely confirmed a few of these. Google is building their own branded phone that they’ll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding.

The best part of it all is that Google is dictating every aspect of the phone. Google is going to deliver a phone on how they see a phone should be.

It has not yet been confirmed but the phone may be a data only VoIP driven phone. This would not affect the ability to make calls. The only difference is that the calls would be through the data service. Rumors with various cell phone carriers are floating around that Google is seeking to open up data-only relationships with carriers.

Based on a tip from DroidDog, this fantasy phone is rumored to have the model ID, HTC Dragon. The HTC Dragon is rumored to have an astouding 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, run Android 2.0 with HTC Sense, have a 480×800 capacitive touch screen display measuring a massive 4.3″.

Notice that T-Mobile has resumed sales of it's Sidekick 2008 with a little information on the story.

T-mobile announced yesterday, November 17th, that they have resumed sales of the Sidekick 2008. The Sidekick 2008 was pulled off the shelves after a massive outage last month that left customers without access to their data for weeks. Luckily, customers have been able to get much of their data back of which photos are being emailed to customers rather than being stored back on the device.

The new price of the Sidekick 2008 is $49 with a two year contract, while the Sidekick LX 2009 is now $149 with a two-year contract. It is unclear whether this outage issue has impacted sales but only time will tell if customers have lost confidence with T-Mobile storing their data.

Luckily, I was not affected by this but I can only imagine what a surprise it must have been to wake up one day and see that all your information was gone. It’s only a matter of days or weeks until some savvy entrepreneur develops a solution for cell phone users to save their data off of their phone and on some separate cloud type storage method. Perhaps Google? Considering that Microsoft’s Danger service powers the Sidekick this may be an opportunity for a competitor to sweep in with a more reliable service. You never know.

Little compilation of the battle between AT&T and Verizon over the 'there's a map for that' campaign by Verizon comparing 3G networks. AT&T is quite upset and feels that Verizon is misleading customers about accessing the internet.

As you have probably read, at&t (are they back to be capitalized again or still lower cased?) is quite upset at recent advertisements from Verizon bashing their 3G coverage.

Earlier this month at&t filed a lawsuit claiming that Verizon is misleading customers by suggesting that at&t subscribers cannot access wireless Internet services through its network. Verizon’s opening rebuttal to the suit states that “AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon’s ‘There’s a map for that’ advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon’s ads are true and the truth hurts. The rebuttal was filed on Monday in Georgia and today, Wednesday November 18th, a federal judge declined to grant AT&T a temporary restraining order that would force Verizon to stop showing the ads.

In the suit, AT&T wants the ads pulled because they are “false” and “misleading” and because the ads have caused “irreparable harm” to their wireless business. To test this out, I called a friend of mine, Nathan Green of www.Campus2Careers.com and one of the first things he said without even being asked was how bad the service was with AT&T. One thing he pointed out was that AT&T did not take into account cities like Austin, that has a pretty savvy community, the amount of bandwidth required. I don’t want to say that is a consensus but I do remember a well known quote, the customer is always right. If customers are saying the same thing about the 3G coverage AT&T then it must be true. From speaking with a handful of AT&T customers, they all shared the same reason for staying with AT&T. It’s because they have the iPhone. It will be interesting to see how business is affected once the iPhone is released on the Verizon network, that’s when apples can be compared.

I can see how AT&T is upset from this advertisements. But from what I have seen, the ads point out specifically 3G coverage. Although AT&T customers can access the internet through the company’s slower EDGE network, its just not as fast as the 3G network. Verizon advertises that AT&T has not invested enough in having more 3G coverage. It’s not like Verizon is making this up, they may be twisting it to their benefit but AT&T doesn’t have anywhere near as much 3G coverage as Verizon. I wonder if that is one reason why the iPhone is going to be released on Verizon sometime in 2010. That will show how much AT&T customers are unhappy with the coverage, it will be very interesting.

commentary on an article I read about the soon to be released Saygus VPhone expected in the first quarter of 2010. The VPhone allows for two-way video calling while not draining your battery and hogging up all the bandwidth.

Saygus, a south Jordan company, announced that that they have high hopes for their new VPhone. CEO Chad Sayers’ dream is to sell 7 million in the first year and beat the iphone. Quite the feat but it may be possible if they can deliver on everything the VPhone claims to be and do.

The new Saygus VPhone has a touch screen, full QWERTY keyboard and web browser. Not much different than the plethora of other smart phones being released. However, the main feature that distinguishes this phone from the pack is that the VPhone allows you to make live, two-way video calls on your cell phone. As everybody knows, this has been tried and talked about for years but the main problem was battery life. Add that obstacle to the necessary bandwidth needed to handle two way video calls and you get an insurmountable challenge.

According to Saygus CTO Tim Riker, their video technology decreases the amount of bandwidth used and handles really well on unreliable networks. What a great combination. I have also read that the compression program of the video has greatly helped in making this a reality.

Additional features that are being promoted with the new iphone killer title, is that the VPhone has a higher resolution screen than the iphone along with an auto-focusing camera. Interesting enough the VPhone also serves as a portable Wi-Fi hot spot for your lap top. That’s right, your lap top will see the VPhone as an access point and connect to the internet.

Expect this phone to be out sometime in the first quarter of 2010. I have not come across any reviews except from the comments I have read on the phone. The quality does not appear to be great, its manufactured by a Chinese company but I imagine that if Verizon picks it up, as it has been rumored, that they will work on the aesthetics.

Although making video calls is a great feature, I don’t know how much I would personally use it. I do see a high use for connecting with friends and family and especially business. Good thing Verizon is jumping on this because they have the infrastructure with their 3G network to handle this type of phone.

Depending on any potential rebates, the phone will sell for between $199 and $299.

If you want to start bringing in funds to get this phone or any other new phone, visit our sister site, www.sellphoneforcash.com to sell us your old cell phone and start saving towards getting a new phone.

Commentary on a blog post I read on www.Recyclingforcharities.com about a recent partnership with Kodak to drive recycling and fundraising efforts for charities through donations of old electronics. I also discuss a suggestion of how our service can add to their mission of disposing of old cell phones and raise even more money for charities.

I came across a blog post on Recyclingforcharities.com while doing some research as to how big companies are doing their part to make the world a better place by making an effort to reduce electronic waste. In this particular post, Kodak recently partnered up with Recycling For Charities in a joint effort to reduce electronic waste.

From the post, Kodak will be incorporating the Recycling for Charities logo on the front of their latest Kodak EashShare M320 digital camera. Kodak did not stop there, going the extra mile and making it extremely easy for consumers to do their part. Upon opening the package upon purchase, there is a paid postage label with 3 easy steps to send in their old electronics. The 3 steps are to first visit www.recyclingforcharities.com, submit your info, package your old camera/cell phone, and include your oder # so that your benefiting charity can benefit. Real easy.

Considering that the Kodak M320 digital camera is to be sold at Wal-Mart and Sam’s clubs, people have no excuse not to do their part. It does not cost them anything other than their time filling out the info and packaging their old electronics and dropping it in the mail.

Now how could this be better? This is great and all but luckily, there is always room for improvement. We may have a solution that can greatly enhance what Recycling for Charities does.

First off, a little background that I came across about Recycling for Charities. They are the only 501 (c)(3) non-profit that focuses on recycling cell phones. From reading their questions section, it is my understanding that they will make a donation on your part to the charity of your choice. However, I was unable to come across any material stating how that amount is calculated. I would assume its a flat rate for certain types of phones, i.e. smart phones compared to non-smart phones and the same for the other electronics they collect.

Having given donations before to non-profits, I imagine a tax deductible receipt is given to the donor to fill in the value. This is mentioned but I wonder if an amount is included in that receipt or if its up to the donor to fill in. If I had an old cell phone to donate, I would surely go through the easy process and find out but unfortunately I do not. One flaw that I see here is the amount inputted by the donor on their taxes and the amount actually donated to the charity of their choice. The two goals I see in this whole process are first to ensure the proper disposal of old electronics and raise the most money for charities through this initiative.

What if there was a way that, the donor could instantly see the value of their donation, allocate those funds to a charity of their choice ( or even split it amongst various organizations), get a more accurate tax deductible receipt and Recycling for Charities would not have to put any money out of pocket to make a donation to a charity for the old cell phones donated?

That would be great wouldn’t it?

Well let me tell you a bit about a service we offer. We have the technology to brand our cell phone calculator for any non-profit, company or organization to implement on their site for donors to do just that.

It is an extremely simple process and would take very little effort for a non-profit, company or organization to implement. We would brand our calculator to match the sites format and handle the whole entire pricing process. Donors would input their phones, get a value, determine what charity to donate to, or divvy it up amongst several if its high value phone, and viola it gets processed. Old cell phones with value are re-purposed and more funds are raised for charities and everyone is happy. For those phones that have no value because of their age, condition or etc. they get re-directed towards the proper recycling channels. Even if the phones have no value but still work, we can re-route those to organizations that provide phones to battered women or for elderly people to make emergency calls, thats why we call it re-purposing, recycling is the last resort.

The major benefits of this are that charities can get even more money from something they are currently participating in and donors can get a more accurate amount for their donations based on the market value of their phones. Most importantly, Recycling for Charities would not have to put any money up front because we as a company would buy the phones of value and cut a check to the charity designated to receive the donation. That sounds like a win-win for everyone involved and its entirely streamlined.

If anyone from Recycling for Charities reads this, please contact us at your convenience. If not, we will be contacting you in time to discuss this in the future. It appears that using our custom calculator application can greatly enhance your mission together. Most importantly, this does not cost a single penny for anyone to implement our cell phone calculator onto their branded site. Its a way of working together on spreading the message of the importance to do the right thing with your old cell phone and raise money for a great cause.

Recent roll out of a more sustainable package for select wireless accessories by Sprint that will ultimately save them $2.1 million. Upgrades include soy and vegetable based inks, bio-degradeable air pillow, paperboard certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

I recently read a blog by Lauren Hasler on Earth911.com about Sprint going with a more sustainable package for select wireless accessories that is ultimately going to save them $2.1 million dollars.

I think its awesome that they have decided to roll out this month packaging that uses 20 to 40 less material than before and utilize easier materials for recycling. Interesting enough they even took into account the type of ink used on the packaging.

The previous petroleum-based inks were replaced with soy and vegetable inks. Who ever they have in their corporate office making these decisions is really on top of things. Even the paperboard used is Forest Stewardship Council certified.

Reading all this makes me wonder, why don’t other cell phone companies follow suit in doing the same, especially with the cost savings and the great press and environmental benefit from doing so.

The benefits are clear, cost savings on the bottom line and doing great for the environment. Seems like a no brainer to me.

The only reason why I think they don’t is because of the cost of doing the research and implementing the changes.

Just some specs and features that I learned about the new Verizon Motorola Google Droid.

Having been a Verizon customer for over 5 years now, I think its been its been a total of 7 years. I have been pretty happy with Verizon until this year. I am satisfied with the service but I went ahead and got the Blackberry Storm 9530. Of which I have had to replace it now 5 times this year and we still have two months left in 2009.

With the newly released Google Droid by Motorola, I saw hope in getting a functional phone.

First off lets run through some of the great specs and offerings of the Droid.

A massive 3.7″ display.
DVD quality playback and capture (no more distorted video)
Expandable memory. Comes with 16GB pre installed with up to 32GB expandable
Extremely thin tablet, minuscule 13.7 MM
WIFI 802.11 G/B
USB 2.0 HS
Dual Mic Technology
Built in Google Talk, SMS/MMS and document viewer
GPS-Compass app that gives you voice turn by turn directions
Double tap zoom
Auto focus with image stabilization (has a lot of bugs from what I read but Verizon is issuing fixes on December 11th I believe)
5 megapixel camera

Some other cool things that I have read about the Droid, I plan to stop by this week at a Verizon store and test one out. I have been told by colleagues and friends that I use smart phones heavily.

I like how you can still multi-task. That’s a great feature because I use that a lot on my Storm. It’s great to have the browser open and surf and quickly share a link via SMS or email.

I am curious how the night shots are. Night shots using the Storm is horrible, well the camera function in itself from the Storm is horrible.

All in all I am ready to test one out and see if its worth trading in the Storm and testing out a new phone. Then again, I don’t want to get burned twice and may wait till the next version comes out.

Here at SellYourCellular we have made it extremely easy for you to do the right thing with your old cell phone. There are three routes your old cell phone can go. The first is that you have the option to sell your phone if it still has value. Using our easy phone value calculator, you can find out your phones value in a few simple steps.

Who doesn’t like a little extra cash? Maybe it can go towards getting a newer model. Heck, we even made it to where you can donate that extra cash from your old cell phone to a charity of your choice. Talk about killing two birds with one cell phone. Not only are you disposing your old phone properly and making the right decision for the environment but you are also sending money to a charity of your choice.

In the event that your phone has no value, do not worry. We will work together on getting that phone to the right recycling facility. Simply ship the phone to us and we will work with our recycling partners on disposing that old cell phone properly.

For those phones that still work but have no value, we can send those to various charities that utilize cell phones for specific causes. One example, is Cell Phones for Soldiers that send cell phones to soldiers to make calls home.
